UPDATE: The Grothouse Lumber Company featured in House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year

Grothouse products will be featured in both the indoor and outdoor cooking environments

House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year with Tyler FlorenceAugust 2011 (Germansville, PA) – The Grothouse Lumber Company was chosen by House Beautiful magazine for its annual “Kitchen of the Year.” Grothouse products were featured in both the indoor and outdoor cooking environments. Tyler Florence, noted chef, Food Network host and House Beautiful contributing editor, designed this year’s kitchen, described as a “perfect union of tradition, functionality and warm, welcoming design.” The kitchen was located in the heart of Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.

Chopping and cutting surfaces are essential to a well-designed and functional kitchen. As the butcherblock sponsor, the indoor kitchen featured a Sapele Mahogany Grothouse work table, designed by Tyler Florence. “We worked in tandem with Tyler to create an heirloom table that will provide an essential work surface and adds the desired warmth to the space,” said Paul Grothouse, owner of The Grothouse Lumber Company. The work table features a 4″ thick chopping surface with integrated knife slots and five drawers for convenient storage. The functionality of the work table is optimized by rolling casters, permitting the work table to be positioned anywhere in the kitchen and used to serve tableside. The table secures to the kitchen island with magnets. Tyler added a personal touch by including an engraved Latin phrase from the patron saint of Chefs. The table is artfully designed with clean contemporary lines in rich brown mahogany hues.

House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year with Tyler FlorenceThe outdoor kitchen featured an American Cherry cutting board. The end grain butcherblock is the preferred construction for serious chefs, as end grain does not dull knives and surface scratches and nicks can be easily sanded out. The rich American Cherry butcherblock compliments the gray stone of the outdoor kitchen and is removable for cleaning and winter storage.

Additional information about the Kitchen of the Year can be found on the House Beautiful website. Consumers can also visit www.glumber.com to view detailed information on purchasing the butcherblock work table as well as watch a video of Tyler explaining his design and his favorite features of the butcherblock table.
